Japanese Puerto Ricans are individuals of Japanese descent who were born or raised in Puerto Rico. The first Japanese immigrants came to Puerto Rico in the early 1900s, and more followed in the 1950s and 60s.
The community is relatively small, with an estimated population of 1,000 to 1,500 individuals. Many Japanese Puerto Ricans are third or fourth generation descendants of the original immigrants and have assimilated into Puerto Rican culture.
Japanese Puerto Ricans have made important contributions to Puerto Rico's economy and society. Many have established successful businesses, particularly in the restaurant and tourism industries. In addition, Japanese Puerto Ricans have also contributed to the arts, music, and sports scene, enriching Puerto Rico's cultural identity.
Despite the small size of the community, Japanese Puerto Ricans have maintained strong cultural ties to their Japanese heritage. They continue to celebrate traditional Japanese festivals such as Obon and hold cultural events that showcase their unique identity.
